Cheltenham Tuesday 2010 - betting advice and tips for the Champion Hurdl, Arkle and Supreme Novices Hurdle etc

Cheltenham Tuesday:

1:30 Spinal Research Supreme Novicesī Hurdle Grade 1 Cl1 2m110y

With Dunguib at 4/5 the Supreme Novice Hurdle would seem to be a formality ! Dunguib showed phenominal bumper form winning both Cheltenham and Punchestown races by big margins. This year he has won his novice hurdles without coming off the bridle but his jumping has left a little to be desired. It is possible that he is the real deal but at odds on there is little value in the price. Get Me Out Of Here has looked good for his five wins and has an official rating of 150 which would be good enough to place in most runnings of the race. However, he has been backed into 5/1 and is not really great value either. Oscar Whiskey is not without chances and may be worth an eachway punt. Willie Mullins has two horses in the race, Blackstairmountain and Flat Out, and this trainer has a good record in the race. I like the chances of Flat out at 20/1 as he has a similar profile to Ebaziyan who won the race a couple of years ago at a big price and offers some value from a stable who have some very good horses and a good record in the race. Menorah has a similar rating to Get Me Out Of Here at 147 but is as big as 12/1 in the betting because of a poor run last time out. That was not Richard Johnson's finest ride and i think that the horse can be excused this run because it was such a muddling race. At the time of writing this Rite of Passage 10/1 is still in the race although he is favourite for another option. He has improved this season and may get closer to Dunguib than in last years Champion Bumper. My way of playing this race is back Menorah eachway with Paddy Power who will refund the win part of the bet if Dunguib wins the race and i get 3/1 for a place with the eachway. The horse is also capable of winning the race and will like a strong pace and the expected ground.

2:05 Irish Independent Arkle Challenge Trophy Chase Grade 1 Cl1 2m

The Irish have the favourite in the first three races at Cheltenham this year. They will either be rejoicing or heading back accross the sea broke! Captain Cee Bee at 3/1 won at Cheltenham two years ago when he beat another JP Mcmanus horse Binocular in impressive fashion. Sizing Europe 5/1 beat the captain when he fell at the last (looking the winner) over in Ireland. I like the look of Somersby 5/1 who was third at the Festival last year as a hurdler but has always looked a chaser in the making. He jumped impressively at Sandown last time and looked a natural. Riverside Theartre (out of top sire Kings Theartre) has good claims as well and 8/1 is the eachway selection. Willi Mullins Sports Line is not without chances either.

2:40 William Hill Trophy Handicap Chase Grade 3 Cl1 3m110y

David Pipe's horses have been a bit quiet of late so i am going to pass oveer The Package as a winner here.I like Bensalem who is very well thought of by Alan King. However, his jumping is a big question mark. Razor Royale has improved this season and loves Cheltenham and has definte eachway claims at 16/1. I will take a chance on Bensalem's jumping and go eachway at 6/1.

3:20 Smurfit Kappa Champion Hurdle Challenge Trophy Grade 1 Cl1 2m110y

This looks an open race with a number of horses in with a good chance. Zaynar 10/1 was favourite but after losing last time out he has been on the drift since. Starluck 12/1 is not without chances, the better the ground the better his chance of staying up the hill. Celestial Halo 12/1 seems to have been forgotten ! Khyber Kim 8/1 has won against some of these at Cheltenham twice earlier in the season and the trainer is bullish! Binocular 8/1 was another early favourite who was pulled out because of possible injury only to be reinstated after nothing untoward was found wrong. Go Native 4/1 won the fighting Fifth altough it was a muddling race and Starluck missed out by a whisker. Solwhit 6/1 was another favourite who has had a scare (dirty scope) and whose chance would seemingly be better on softer ground. This leaves the two i quite like as an eachway punt although it will be for small stakes and without huge confidence. Punjabi 8/1 is the champion and a spring horse. he needs runs to get him fit, ran really well winning last year and again at Punchestown and seems to be a horse that delivers without punters ever steaming in to him. I think he may just surprise a few people. The other eachway horse is Medermit 8/1 who has ran well considering that his trainer Alan King's yard has been in the doledrums this season. They are slowly coming out of that and Alan King is a master at getting them right for the Festival. The trainer is sweet on his chances and further improvement so i think he is worth a little eachway interest.

4:00 Glenfarclas Handicap Chase (A Cross Country Chase) Cl2 3m7f

This is usually won by Ender Bolger and again this year the winner should come from either Garde Champetre or L'ami. Sizing Australia is the obvious fly in the ointment. Monkerhostin is an interesting entry at 16/1 but i am going to go for a bit of eachway value and go for Silver Birch 20/1 to run into a place.

4:40 David Nicholson Maresī Hurdle Grade 2 Cl1 2m4f

Quevega romped home last year but after a long absence i cant be backing her with any confidence and she is definately not value at 2/1. They have been backing Voler La Vedette 7/4 and she is the most likely winner and again she is not value. A friend of mine thinks Sravinsky 25/1 Dance will run into a place at a huge price. My pick is Easter Legend 16/1 to place at nice odds.
