Eachway Betting

When we bet we should be looking to maximise our profits and minimise our losses.

Eachway betting is an important part of a professional approach to betting. Bookmakers hate punters betting for win and place. why, because if i back a horse at 5/1 and it finishes in a place position then i get my money back and have effectively had a bet to nothing. Even backing a 5/2 shot each way has its merits because a fifth of the odds for the place means that you get back 75% of your total outlay for a place finish. This minimises our losses and means that over time we can maximise our profit because we recoup more of our outlay. This is a mathematical bet and one you should look to adopt in your quest to be proffesional in your betting.

The E/W double is a powerful tool and will help to minimise loses on double bets where one or none of your selections wins but they both get placed. An Eachway double of two even money shots pays 4 times your stake for the win part and 1.44 for the place. So you get nearly half your win stake back for those place odds. Similarly a double of two 8/1 shots pays 81 times your stake for the win and 5.76 times your stake for the place double. (less your initial stake for the profit in both scenarios and assuming place odds of 1/5)

Rules:

Bet E/W for bets of 5/2 and above.

Bet with E/W for 3 places and above.

Bet E/W for 4 places in 16 runner handicaps.

Look at bookmaker offers for extra places for big prize handicap fields for an 'extra' edge. (ie the Grand National)

Place Terms:

Normal odds for betting are 1/5 of the odds for 3 places in races of 8 runners or more.

1/5 the odds for 2 places in races of 7 runners or less.

For handicaps of 16 runners or more the odds are 1/4 of the odds for 4 places.
