The Punchestown Festival - Information, advice, tips and betting Guide

Punchestown Festival:

After the Brilliance of the Cheltenham Festival, the spectacle of Aintree and the Grand National it is Ireland's turn to host their Championship meeting. Punchestown rarely disappoints and is a meeting which is becoming more popular with the English and their trainers.

Aintree can often come too quickly after Cheltenham for some horses, so trainers are increasingly holding horses back to run at this exciting event.

With the Jump season coming to an end, Punchestown offers one last chance to enjoy the excitement and spectacle of top class National Hunt Racing.

Situated a couple of miles outside Naas and 35 miles west of Dublin, Punchestown comes alive for the five days of the festival. People stay around the area and as with all Irish festivals the towns come alive with the craic ! The pubs and restaurants of Naas are heaving with punters eager to participate and catch some live entertainment after racing.

Betting:
As well as the Irish Tote there is a large betting ring which is a hive of activity. As usual, the Irish are experts at hiding a horses ability until 'the day' when the gamble is to be landed. However, they all love a tip and if you backed every one you heard you would return home a pauper especially, as many tips are for horses in the same race !

A note of caution. Horses that have won at Cheltenham will have been fully wound up for that meeting and may not be at their very best at this stage of the season. Horses that were not quite good enough for Cheltenham may have been held back for this, as the prize money is fantastic, so form will be difficult to read. Try and think outside the box and watch the market. Picking a winner is not easy so remember the core values of betting and looking for value before you bet. Eachway betting is a must so look for the best bookmaker offers. Some of the handicap races may be offered at 5 places 1/4 the odds so shop around.

If you get the opportunity to go then i reccomend it to any NH fan. The Irish know how to party and the racing is top class. A week that i always look forward to.
